Here at the Stan Cassidy Foundation we are all about removing the financial barriers and obstacles patients and their families face during the rehabilitation process. Our Equipment Recycling Program helps patients access gently-used equipment that is often very expensive—for free!
In some cases, equipment is donated to the Stan Cassidy Centre for assessment and treatment purposes. This means that physicians and therapists can use the equipment—to help patients staying at the Centre learn what works best for them or lend the pieces out to help patients with their transition home. For the Centre, one piece of equipment might help in the care of 15 patients per year and have a lifespan of six years.
The program also benefits the donors of the equipment. Often the equipment belonged to a loved one who has passed and the Stan Cassidy Foundation provides a convenient, comfortable and warm environment for processing the donation. Donors find it meaningful to know the equipment is kept out of the landfill and will be used once again. They also receive a charitable tax receipt for the value of the donation.
"When Josh passed away we knew that we wanted to donate his chair, bath lift and other items to the Foundation to help other families in their time of need. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a charitable tax receipt for our donations. In my opinion, the Stan Cassidy Foundation is wonderful and definitely fulfilling their promise to patients, by helping them recover from illness, overcome obstacles and adapt to changing circumstances." - Karen Gunn, Equipment Recycling Donor
We also make sure we work cooperatively with other non-profit equipment programs in the Maritimes to ensure no duplication of services.
