The Stan Cassidy Foundation has presented Chase the Ace jackpot winner Shannon Valanne with her prize of $11,048.50.
Valanne – a regular player of the foundation’s Chase the Ace – won the jackpot when she drew the Ace of Hearts out of the 15 cards that were left in the deck last Tuesday evening, which led to excited cheers from the packed crowd at Mama’s Brew Pub. She won the weekly prize of 20% of the night’s ticket sales ($652) plus the $10,396.50 in the jackpot. Valanne still hasn’t decided what to do with her winnings, although she has a few items in mind.
“We had pipes burst twice from cold weather in the last couple weeks, so getting a wood stove and paying some bills are at the top of the list,” she says.
Valanne, who is from Fredericton, considers herself extra lucky given that she nearly missed the opportunity to buy tickets on Tuesday. She was at her lake house cleaning up after Christmas and doing work to prevent another pipe burst. She made it back into town just in time, arriving at Mama’s Brew Pub to get her tickets at 6:52 p.m. – just eight minutes before ticket sales closed for the night.
Over the course of the 38 weeks of gameplay, the Stan Cassidy Foundation sold a total of $34,655 in tickets. In addition to the 30% of ticket sales that went into the jackpot, $6,931.00 was given out to weekly winners. A total of $17,327.50 (50% the proceeds) was raised for the foundation.
Stan Cassidy Foundation Executive Director Alissa Lee congratulated Valanne and thanked all who helped in making the foundation’s Chase the Ace possible.
“Thank you to all our volunteers, ticket purchasers and sponsors who made our first Chase the Ace a great success,” said Lee. “The money raised for the foundation will help us provide support to help Stan Cassidy Centre patients and families directly, and help the centre provide leading-edge patient care.”
Sponsors for the foundation’s Chase the Ace include Mama's Brew Pub, Covey Basics, Brookside Mall, and Bell Media through its local radio stations The Fox, Capital FM, and KHJ Country.
The foundation will begin a new round of its Chase the Ace in the spring. The start date for the new round will be announced in the coming weeks on the foundation’s Facebook page and its website at www.stancassidyfoundation.ca.
