The Power of Community

The Power of Community

The Bikes ‘n’ Trikes program helps Stan Cassidy patients and their families.

Did you know that the Stan Cassidy Centre is home to the only paediatric neurological rehab wing in New Brunswick and PE?I Or, did you know that it is home to Atlantic Canada’s most comprehensive assistive technology services? Did you also know that the use of an adapted bike or trike can aid in paediatric neurological rehabilitation through helping with bone growth, development of hand/eye coordination and more? It’s true.

In fact the Bikes ’n’ Trikes for Kids ’n’ Tykes program was founded in 2012 by the Stan Cassidy Foundation in partnership with President’s Choice® Children’s Charity. And, snce then nearly 40 bikes/trikes have been donated to children and their families. Kids like Olivia Beckingham have directly benefited from having a bike and in turn gained a new level in independence. The results have a profound affect on the entire family as we heard from Olivia’s mother, Carol-Ann Haggarty.

Through the generous support of individuals, corporations like Loblaw Companies Limited and community organizations like Fredericton’s Epsilon Ys Men, these specially adapted bikes and trikes – which have an average cost of nearly $3,000 each —are able to reach the people who need them most.

We couldn’t do what we do, without the army of volunteers who work tirelessly to help us. Volunteers provide essential support in a variety of capacities including office work assembling our promotional materials, special event support, and more! We are so thrilled that so many members of our broader community come out to support the Stan Cassidy community. The power of community is outstanding in our region and together we are stronger.
